Travel: Sedona + Page + Grand Canyon

Arrive at Phoenix Airport and rent a car.

There are two ways of organizing the trip:

Option 1 - Phoenix - Sedona - Page - Grand Canyon - Scottsdale

Option 2 - Phoenix - Sedona - Grand Canyon - Page - Scottsdale

(just make sure you plan to drive Grand Canyon-Page with daylight as Desert Drive is worth the scenery and the one way street gets very dark and isolated at night)

Sedona

  • Devil's Bridge hike (1.8 miles roundtrip 1.5 hours). Bring snacks and plenty of water. Parking available at trailhead. The bridge is at the end of the trail, nice spot for pictures and a break.

  • Cathedral Rock trail (1.2 miles roundtrip but you gain a lot of elevation quickly). If you are planning to watch the sunset, bring your red headlight to return. Trail marks are not very clear at night. Parking available at trailhead.

  • Chapel of the Holy Cross. Parking available on site.

Eat:

Mesa Grill Sedona. Restaurant overlooking Mesa airport (make sure to go with daylight).

Page

  • Lower Antelope Canyon with Ken's Tours. Make sure to reserve ahead of time.

  • Horseshoe Bend: It is a short hike and perfect spot for sunset. It gets crowded so if you want a nice spot, get there early.

  • Kayak at Lake Powell: We rented from Lake Powell Kayaks at Coppermine Road. YES, pay more to have the kayak company take the kayak to the lake's ramp entrance, sometimes the lake's tide is very low and the way up to the car carrying the kayak is long and steep. We did a self-guided tour. BUT, on one occasion an unpredicted wind storm made us stop at one of the sides for half hour in order to continue, so measure your group's ability and decide on whether to take a guided tour. Always remember you will have to row back to the starting ramp.

Grand Canyon National Park

Just incredible. Breathtaking views.

  • Sleep the night before inside or close to the south rim park entrance (we stayed at Grand Canyon Inn and Motel) so you take advantage of the whole day the next day.

  • Get a private vehicle pass at recreation.gov. This pass admits the passholder and up to 15 passengers of a single, non-commercial vehicle.

  • The village has plenty of parking.

  • South Kaibab Trail until Cedar Ridge: Bring snacks and plenty of water. You might feel a bit dizzy from the rapid change in elevation. This took us half day.

  • Hopi Point. Take the bus to get there. Try and find the river running at the bottom of the canyon.

  • Bright Angel Trail hike is another popular hike. You can select which point to reach as the way up is the same way you came down.

Scottsdale

Nice town to walk around. Plenty of places to eat.
