Artists series: Introduction

Inspired by finding out what is behind the concept of these incredible Latin American women artists’ artwork I have started a series of short interviews. I have been positively surprised on how open and kind they have all been.

I was curious on the “behind the scenes”. On finding out what was behind their creativity. I am learning that art strives to be a reflection of the self and at the same time of the shared traits of humankind. The artwork speaks on hidden layers about the artist: their roots (like Mariana Copello), their childhood and hometown (like Karian Amaya), their ancestors (like Katy Biele), their current state of emotions (like Alejandra Gotera) and their experiences (like Nicolle Cure). And at the same time it speaks about shared traits of humankind: the Jungian shadow, the collective unconscious and consumerism (like Flor Godward), womanhood and nature (like Evelyn Politzer), human rights and politics (like Camila de la Fuente), and the passing of time.

Art awakens emotionality. It is therefore, universal. Art is a never ending investigation, like solving a puzzle, of all of who we are.

I have also learned that in order to strengthen the muscle of creativity you need to not be afraid to make mistakes and experiment (like Ana Maria Nava), expand your knowledge of light and color (like Carolina Lezama), take the risk to try something new and paint with no end other than expressing yourself (like Verónica Pasman), be flexible, be courageous to accept feedback, be an avid observer of the world (like Mariana Baertl) and have an openness to find inspiration anywhere, mathematics and music (like Inés Silva), literature, psychology, philosophy, history, nature, etc.

More short stories to come. The creativity from Latin American women artists is endless.
